Acoustic sessions

The first in what will be a series of regular acoustic shows which will celebrate stringed instruments from around the world... This week we feature the guitar, and BEMAC favorite, ‘Anthony Garcia’, who will be joined by ‘Mars Melto’, visiting from Vanuatu and local emerging artists "Nes and Sammy J".

WORKSHOPS

One 4 All 09

If you are a young person aged 12-17 and are interested in music or drama, then One 4 All is the program for you. Participants can elect to develop their skills in any of the FOLLOWING areas, including: African Drumming, Drama, Songwriting, Singing, Guitar, Spoken Word/MCing, Indigenous instruments, etc. There will be weekly workshops (at a location near you!) and then once a month all the participants from across SEQ will come together at BEMAC to exchange creative ideas and create new works. The program will culminate in a show at Brisbane Powerhouse on the 16th October

Author, poet, storyteller, playwright, producer, musician, songwriter, and artist, Marcel Meltherorong, or Mars Melto, as he is known in the Pacific has traveled the whole world captivating young people with his stories and music.

PHOTOGRAPHIC COURSE FOR BEGINNERS

This course is in basic photo techniques for the beginner.

The philosophy of this workshop is that performance is for everyone, not just skilled professionals.

The focus throughout is on nurturing each participant’s personal creativity in a theatrical environment. Through practicing simple group, duet, and solo improvisations, we will explore different ways of telling a story, and build relationships with our fellow performers, our audience and our environment.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

B150 CELEBRATIONS – Sunday 6th September

JOIN BEMAC and come be apart of 150 years of Brisbane ’s Independence with the ‘B150 CELEBRATIONS’. This is ‘ Brisbane City Council’s’ largest event for 2009, and BEMAC will be providing a journey throughout the History of Brisbane ’s CULTURAL migration through MUSIC, DANCE, and PERFORMANCE. This will start from the Aboriginal settlement and migration from Indonesia, New Guinea and Melanesia, to the Colonial Settlement with British migrants, the arrival of continental Europeans, Chinese, and Germans, to Post War Jews, Irish, Greek, Italian, Yugoslavian, and Dutch, New Zealanders, refugees from Spain and Portugal, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Russia, post 1960’s – South American Countries, Asian Countries, to the 21st Century migrants from the Middle East and Africa.
